A few weeks back, I wrote a post about Understanding the Changing Web Economy. That post was the seed thought behind a lot of thinking I’ve been doing lately and a topic submission I made for WordCamp Atlanta. Today’s post continues that thought as we look at the future of web browsing.

My wife and I had a great discussion about this very topic last night. As we continue to shrink the footprint of the devices that enable access to the vast content of the web, the way we browse that content is changing as well. Rapidly vanishing are the days or evenings spent sitting behind the monitor in the corner of the living room or spare bedroom. Today you’re just as likely to be on the bus, waiting in line for lunch, or stopped in traffic. The volume of sources that we scan regularly has grown as well, giving rise to a boon of applications designed to sync our bookmarks or make remembering all those sites easier.

What Do You Call What We Do?

Most folks are pretty adept at answering the question, “What do you do?” But this weekend at BarCamp Memphis, one of the conversations I got into tossed around the question and what the right answer should be. Its something that I’ve struggled with and I bet others have too… especially when trying to explain to mom what it is you do!

Depending on whom you read and really believe, the conventional wisdom is to avoid personal posts on a blog or site where you’re trying to do business. Well, I personally think that’s a bunch ‘o bull! Ok, so maybe a post about my most recent visit to the doctor may be a little over the top, but I think you’ll agree that today’s topic is not and at least a little post worthy. My Bride and me a few years ago!

Way way back in 1991, back in the days of Prodigy and CompuServe, I was but a lowly key banger, pounding out job cost accounting software on my 286-12MHz PC over a 1MB network (see, there’s some geeky stuff for ya!). At the same time, at the same company, there was this real cutie working in HR. It didn’t take long for us to start going out and before you know it, its kind of a steady thing.

We were both going to school at night and in her Western Civ class, the instructor offered five extra points if you visited the replica of the Parthenon in Nashville. Being the conscientious student she was, we planned a quick trip up to Nashville one sunny November Saturday. Well, that’s what I planned… she had other plans!
