Welcome to the Holiday Season!

Well, the holiday season is in full swing… at least it is here in the States. In spite of being subjected to Christmas sales ads since before Halloween, it appears that sales from the day after Thanksgiving and the ensuing weekend will be strong. That a good thing. And yes, I’m putting the finishing touches on a geek gifts page to help you sort through all the chaff to find the really helpful things this year.
And speaking of helpful… I have a little challenge for you. In the midst of the rush and hurry of the next few weeks, when a quick dinner out would be more convenient… or a warm cup of $4 coffee would really hit the spot, I’m going to encourage you to Skip1. From Skip1.org…
Skip1.org taps into the world’s wealth to bring food and water to children and families in need around the world. Public donations go to the acquisition and distribution of food and water projects worldwide.
The premise is simple. Skip a night of fast food for the family. Skip a couple of coffees or a lunch. Instead of spending on yourself, skip one of those expenditures and instead, donate what you would have spent to help feed someone who is hungry.
Ok, so maybe Skip1 isn’t your bag of tea. I understand. Maybe you don’t really have an extra $20 to share, times are tough. That’s ok, I’ve been there too. But there is something you can do. If you can’t buy new toys, coats or blankets, donate used. Rake the leaves in your neighbor’s yard. The point is DO SOMETHING. Give to someone who needs something you have more than you do. That is the spirit of the season!
