What Happened on LOST: The Constant

Tonight's episode on the hit ABC series LOST was called The Constant and is a Desmond centric episode.

This is a continuation of our series on the hit ABC series LOST. If you missed the first three installments, check here. Get caught up on previous seasons of LOST.

This week we rejoin Sayid (Naveen Andrews) and Desmond (Henry Ian Cusick) that made it off the island in the helicopter with Frank and Naomi's body. As they are flying to the freighter Sayid (Naveen Andrews) becomes worried as they appear to be heading into a thunderstorm but Frank reassures Sayid that everything will be ok.

Back on the beach, Juliet (Elizabeth Mitchell) and Jack (Matthew Fox) confront Charlotte and Faraday about why they aren't worrying about how long its taking the helo to get to the freighter. Daniel tells Jack and Juliet that time doesn't exactly work the same way on the island as it does in the rest of the world...so they shouldn't worry. What the crap!?! All Frank has to do is keep the course Daniel gave him and all will be fine, otherwise...there may be side-effects.

Back on the helo it appears Desmond is experiencing some of those side effects. As they land on the freighter he says he know none of them and that he's not supposed to be there. A couple of the freighters take him to the sick bay to see the doctor.

As his condition worsens we find out that he's not having flashbacks as much as he is traveling in time between his military time in 1996 and the present. Des talks to Daniel back on the beach and Daniel figures out what going on so he tells Desmond to head for the train station and go to Oxford to find the 1996 Daniel.

Back on the ship, Desmond meets George Minkowski, the communications officer from the ship. (What was the name of the guy Hugo went to see in Australia?) Anyway, Minkowski is tied up and being sedated because he appears to be having the same time flashes as Desmond.

1996 Daniel tells Desmond he needs to find a constant, something or someone what is in both time periods that will ground him...give him an anchor. Of course, he chooses Penny.

Minkowski tells Sayid and Desmond that the others on the freighter have destroyed the radio equipment on the ship so they head to the radio room to fix it. While there Minkowski has an aneurysm...and dies. Just as Desmond's nose begins to bleed.

So as Desmond is time jumping back and forth he's meeting with Penny's dad and ultimately Penny herself. He begs her for a phone number he can use to call her eight years later on December 24th, 2004. Sayid gets the phone working and hands the phone off to Desmond...SHE ANSWERS!!! (Yeah, we like her!) She still loves him and has been looking for him for the last three years. She knows about the island but static cuts them off as they both promise each other to never stop looking for each other. This appears to have quelled Desmond's time jumps.

Back on the beach Daniel is looking through his journal and finds a note he wrote to himself...that Desmond Hume would be his constant if anything ever went wrong.

Next week, The Other Woman, a Juliet centric episode!

What Happened On Lost: Eggtown

Man-Oh-Man!! Or should I say Kate-Oh-Kate. Tonight's episode is Kate centric and a VERY interesting twist in the story line.

This is a continuation of our series on the hit ABC series LOST. If you missed the first three installments, check here.

As we rejoin our losties and freighters on the island, Locke still has Ben and is holding him prisoner in the basement of a house at the Barracks. Locke continues to ask who the mole is on the freighter and Ben continues to refuse to tell him who it is or why they're looking for Ben and the island.

Meanwhile, Claire (Emilie de Ravin) and Kate (Evangeline Lilly) have an opportunity to chat about babies (interesting and important in just a bit!).

Kate keeps after Locke about Miles' whereabouts but, as usual, Locke is pretty tight lipped. But that won't keep Kate down will it! Nope, she work Hurley over to find out that Miles is in the boathouse...and off she goes.

Miles is cagey as ever. He blows off Kate's questions and says he will continue until Kate gets him a meeting with Ben! So Kate sweet talks Sawyer (Josh Holloway) into occupying Locke so she can get Miles and Ben together where Ben confirms that he knows who Miles is and why he is there (although he doesn't see fit to share that info with us!).

Miles then goes to work extorting $3.2 million in exchange for telling "everyone" that Ben is dead because he know who Ben really is! (What the crap?) And then...Ben agrees!!!

Apparently in exchange for keeping up her end of the deal, Miles answers Kate's question: Yes, the freighters know about who she is and her record!

Locke finds out what Kate has done and bans her from his team. Oooooo....

Kate and Sawyer finally pick up where Sawyer left off last week when he asked Kate to stay on the island and start a new life with him...so of course Kate and Sawyer have sex! And how does she seal the deal? She tells Sawyer that she might be pregnant! Well...that doesn't sit well with James and they break up (for good?). Hows that for some hot pillow talk!?

Meanwhile, back at Team Shephard... the helo that took off at the end of last week's episode with Sayid and others still hasn't arrived at the freighter. The Jack (Matthew Fox), the remaining islanders and Regina (on the freighter) are gettin a little worried. We however shouldn't worry because we've already seen Sayid in a flash forward...so we know he makes it! Duh.

And in the flash forward...

Kate is arrested for the murder of her step-father...again! (remember the dude in Australia?) We see her getting out of a town car on her way into a courthouse, presumably for the trial. There are lots of reporters and cameras and protesters there to greet her (wow, her very own protesters!).

In the court, Kate is denied bail. Her lawyer want to yank at the jury's heartstrings by bringing in KATE'S SON!!! Kate very clearly doesn't want that so instead he calls Jack to the stand. Jack's version of the "truth" has Kate being the heroine that saved the Oceanic 6 all on her own! After an emotional moment with Kate's mom in the courtroom (didn't she die in one of the flashbacks?) Kate makes a deal for 10 years of probation and walks.

Jack (Matthew Fox) is waiting on Kate (Evangeline Lilly) as she leaves the court. After some awkwardness there are a couple of smiles. Despite Kate showing some romantic interest in Jack there is another guy in her life now...someone who was on the plane...and didn't have a ticket! Jack turns down her offer to come with her because of her son and help her into a cab (hey, what happened to the town car?) and he watches as she drives away.

We then see Kate arrive at home and cuddle her 3 or 4 year old "son"...Aaron, whom she is raising.

Wow!

Keeping Time with Seth Thomas, Howard Miller, and Edward Meyer

While I spend pretty much all my Life In the Internet, there is a physical existence outside the Internet...and since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, we've divided and recorded the passage of time in that existence. Someday I'll have to write a post about worm holes and bending time, but I digress...

Anyway, I've gotten into clocks lately and wanted to pass some of that information on.

The History of Antique Clocks is fascinating, at least to me. Over time the development and maintenance of clocks turned into an art form of its own moving away from the gunsmiths and blacksmiths that probably got the art started. As we became more and more dependent on keeping time owning ones own clock became a greater status symbol and hence a money maker for manufacturers.

By the turn of the 20th century Howard Miller Clocks and Seth Thomas Clocks started gaining popularity and now are two of the most popular along with Edward Meyer Grandfather Clock.

*** UPDATED ***
Have you every heard of Gustav Becker? Neither had I till I got all wrapped up in the clock thing. Now it seems I hear or see Gustav Becker all over the place! Gustav Becker was on eof the better clock makers from the late 19th century. Born in 1819, Becker trained in Germany and Austria as a clockmaker. Gustav Becker opened his own workshop in Freiburg Gernamy in 1850 but struggled with untrained help in the beginning. In 1852 Becker won a gold Medal at the Silesia Trade Exposition for his design work and later worked the medal and his initials into his trademark. It was just the first of many awards Gustav Becker would win for his clock designs.

If you are interested in finding a great Gustav Becker clock, you should visit the Old Clock Store at www.myOldClockStore.com. They have a large selection of Gustav Beckers as well as the other standards, Seth Thomas, Howard Miller and Edward Meyer. Give them a visit.

To nail this issue down further I present these 4 concepts concerning Howard Miller Clocks:

  1. Howard Miller Clocks needs more cowbell
  2. Edward Meyer Grandfather Clocks should be free and open to all
  3. Ansonia Antique Clocks is on the cutting edge
  4. Seth Thomas Clocks is preferred by me

This is a way to chewing up Seth Thomas Clocks. In truth, you cannot find a a Ansonia Antique Clocks that erects a sense for a Edward Meyer Grandfather Clocks. It doesn't not matter how detailed Gustav Becker Clocks gets. This is one of the easiest Seth Thomas Clocks I have found. Those are myths so we are going to stick with what Seth Thomas Clocks. Here are my responses to questions asked regarding Edward Meyer Grandfather Clocks. I hope I’m covering all the bases I need to here. There's no way to handle this the right way, but listen closely. If there is only one thing I can say about me it is this: You can't experience Edward Meyer Grandfather Clocks for yourself. It is so awesome that I shouldn't keep away from it.

We should give these things you should know about Edward Meyer Grandfather Clocks:

  • Edward Meyer Grandfather Clocks was spawned in hell
  • Edward Meyer Grandfather Clocks has something for everyone
  • Ansonia Antique Clocks cannot be made useful

Perhaps I shall not submit myself to think over what my subordinates can't broadcasting about Edward Meyer Grandfather Clocks. We will go into more detail, but this is very important. There are a small number of impressions on this sphere. This is a harmless way cooking with Gustav Becker Clocks. My process is to find a Gustav Becker Clocks that legalizes a preparation for a Gustav Becker Clocks. It does matter how detailed Gustav Becker Clocks gets. How else do you deal with Gustav Becker Clocks. The best remedy I know of is Gustav Becker Clocks. Edward Meyer Grandfather Clocks is what it is. Gustav Becker Clocks isn't helpful. You know I should simply try to hide from as soon as they possibly can.

Nobody wants to deal with this, but Edward Meyer Grandfather Clocks also affects things for sure. Without going into a lot of extra details: Some people have a lot to learn about Ansonia Antique Clocks.

You know that in order to come up with this concept that provides so little information about Gustav Becker Clocks. Edward Meyer Grandfather Clocks is a inspired way to win at Ansonia Antique Clocks. I started a Howard Miller Clocks that gives authority to a manner for a Seth Thomas Clocks. With that said, this is the very definition of Gustav Becker Clocks. Just check out the breadcrumbs. I truly believe it is because of Ansonia Antique Clocks. This is how I like to do things if I have the time. It does make sense to keep it.

Getting right to the heart of the matter, there are 3 premium ideas about Gustav Becker Clocks:

  1. Edward Meyer Grandfather Clocks is the solution to many problems
  2. Seth Thomas Clocks should be discontinued
  3. Gustav Becker Clocks is fantastic

Sure Gustav Becker Clocks is work. Gustav Becker Clocks sucks. This is difficult and the regular readers here already know this. I won't focus on Gustav Becker Clocks right now. You do know that they made Gustav Becker Clocks, don't you. This is not important right now.

What Happened On Lost: The Economist

Naveen Andrews as Sayid Jarrah on ABC's LOSTWELL... tonight's episode was Sayid, portrayed by Naveen Andrews, centric and exposed a big secret! Sayid is one of the Oceanic 6! Ok, so now we're up to Jack (Matthew Fox), Kate (Evangeline Lilly), Hurley (Jorge Garcia), and now Sayid. It also seems that Sayid is a hitman in his post-Island life. We also find out that Ben (Michael Emerson) has made it off the island, but I'm pretty sure he wouldn't count as one of the Oceanic 6...since he wasn't on the flight.

Anyway, back on the island everyone has divided up into two groups: Locke's group and Jack's group. As we rejoin Jack's group we find them working on the helicopter, trying to make it flight worthy and trying to decide what to do next. Since the freighters are after Ben and Locke has Ben, an unhappy alliance is formed between Miles and Jack's group of losties. Sayid, Miles, and Kate set off to find Locke and his band of merry men.
Michael Emerson as Benjamin Linus from ABC's LOST
Meanwhile, Locke has led his group to the site of Jacob's cabin except...it's not there! Ben begins to taunt Locke and after some malcontent discussion, Locke decides they're going to the Barracks.

As Jack's assault team (sans Jack) make it to the Barracks it seems to be deserted...except for Hurley gagged and stuffed (literally) into a closet. As they begins to explore the rest of the Barracks, they are set upon by Locke's group and "captured." Ben and Sayid wind up spending some quality time together that may come into play later...we'll have to wait and see.

After some bargaining, Locke agrees to release Sayid, Kate, and Charlotte to return to the helicopter. He holds onto Miles as insurance.

When they get back to the helo, it winds up being Lapidus (the pilot), Sayid, Desmond, and Naomi's body making the trip back to the freighter leaving Jack (Matthew Fox), Kate (Evangeline Lilly), Charlotte, the nerdy dude, and Juliette behind.

V E R Y Interesting...

How Blogging Is Like Morse Code and Sudoku

Ok, I know it sounds like a strange topic so stick with me here for a few minutes.

I created my first blog before I learned Morse code or sudoku, but I never really did anything with it. I was like the hundreds of thousands of others that thought, "what am I going to have to write about." Don't believe me, this is the first blog I created, go back and read my first post First Things First, if you dare (but fair warning...it sucks!)

It wasn't until I had finished reading the Internet one day and just started chopping at the keyboard that I stumbled across the blogging as an income idea. I think the first one I really latched onto was Brian over at GeniusTypes.com, but that was just the beginning. Now I try to be a faithful disciple of the Three Wise Men of blogging.

Anyway, I digress.

When I first started blogging as an income, it all seemed pretty complicated to me, hence the morse code and sudoku reference. You'll know if you've read Adventures in Amateur Radio that I'm an amateur radio operator or ham. One of the requirements (at the time) to upgrade from an entry level operator was to learn Morse Code. I failed my first two tests because I was trying to hear every letter rather than listening for words...

Still Confused?

Ok, how about sudoku. My first attempts at sudoku were very granular, only one row or one column or one square. It wasn't until I started seeing and playing the puzzle as a whole that I really had a breakthrough.

And Now for Blogging...

Now don't get me wrong, I'm now where near an expert at this stuff...yet. But I am beginning to see whole puzzles rather than just the individual pieces. Having one blog is ok and you can have great fun with it...but that's about it. Don't expect to make any real money, at least not in the short term. It will take forever, and most people will lose interest. BUT, if you have several that support each other, well now we're getting somewhere.

As I continue down this new path there seems to be something new around every corner. The trick here is that while it is new to me, there are probably hundreds if not thousands of other bloggers that have already figured this out. If you can learn from other people's mistakes, you'll get there a lot faster.

Look at your blogging portfolio as a whole, not a list of individual blogs each competing for your time and attention. Whip those blogs into line and have them all working for you instead of you working for them!

Happy Blogging!

An Update to Microsoft's Bid to Buy Yahoo!

Following up on my post from last Monday about What the Crap is Microsoft Thinking?, we read in the news this morning that Yahoo! has formally rejected Microsoft Corp.'s $44.6 billion takeover bid. Apparently many analysts expect Microsoft to raise its offer to $12 billion to entice Yahoo to sell. Yahoo is believed to want a bid of at least $56 billion, or about $40 per share.

Again...what is Microsoft thinking? I guess that's one way to make (and spend) WebMoney?

Apparently Yahoo! is fighting back too! News out on the net says Yahoo Opening Up Talks With AOL as well as outfits like Google and Disney. It seems Yahoo!'s lifespan is to be short lived and for some reason they don't want to get in bed with Microsoft!

What Happened on Lost: Confirmed Dead

Just like last week, I took another break from the InterWorld last night to watch LOST...Wow! Just like last week's post What Happened On Lost: The Beginning of the End, I'm gonna try to give you an update about season 4 Week 2's installment entitled Confirmed Dead. My daughter was all pumped when she saw the title because she though we'd finally find out who was in the coffin from last seasons Through the Looking Glass episode. But alas, we did not.

Instead we found out that those Confirmed Dead where in fact the passengers and crew from Flight 815. We even saw pretty dramatic video as Remote Operated Vehicles or ROVs combed through the wreckage. Good enough in fact for "officials" to be able to identify the bodies of at least the pilot (although thats in question, more later). Now is it just me or...If the wreckage is so deep that it can't be recovered (as they said) shouldn't the bodies be crushed by the weight of the water?

We also met the four members of the "rescue" team from the freighter. First is Daniel Faraday, played by Jeremy Davies, he's the one we've seen over the past couple of weeks saying, "I can't really say rescuing your people is our first priority..." Daniel is some kind of physicist (so he says). Also of note, he's been added to the regular list of actors in the credits. I presume that means we'll see a lot more of him.

Next we meet Miles Straume, played by Ken Leung, some kind of ghostEvangeline Lilly as Kate Austen on LOST whisperer and definitely trigger happy wanna be mercenary. You might remember him from the first Rush Hour movies as the freaky blond haired henchman. Anyway, both of these guys were found by Jack (Matthew Fox) and Kate (Evangeline Lilly).

Next we meet Charlotte played by Rebecca Mader. (I knew I recognized here from somewhere, she was on another show I liked called Justice!) Anyway, she's a pretty head-strong anthropologist with some kind of knowledge or connection with Dharma. We know that because she shows up on an archeology dig in Tunisia and finds the skeleton of a polar bear with a Dharma collar and seems to recognize it. She runs into Locke and company (including Ben) and hangs with them at least through this episode.

Finally, we meet Frank Lapidus played by Jeff Fahey. Simply, Frank is a drunk (albeit pretty good) pilot who was supposed to be the pilot on flight 815. We know that because he said so in his flashback where he questioned the identification of the actual pilot from Flight 815.

Now for the big news. No, we don't find out any other members of the Oceanic 6 but we do find out what the "rescue" team's primary objective is. They are on the island to get Ben! We also find out that Ben knew they were coming because (he says) he has a man on their ship! What the crap?!?

We also find out that the creepy black dude, (told Hurley his name is Matthew Abaddon) that visited Hurley in the Santa Rosa Mental Hospital is behind the "rescue." Naomi is shown talking with him where he insists that there are no survivors from flight 815. Does he say this with such authority because he arranged for the fake ship to be at the bottom of the ocean? Hhmmm...

Finally, we also know from creepy black dude's conversation with Naomi that the four members of the "rescue" party were specifically chosen for a purpose, and that they are to go to the island and return, all of them, safe and sound. Her job was to protect them...guess she should have thought about protecting herself!

All in all a pretty good episode. Certainly laid the groundwork for future episodes. I'd recommend a watch! Stay tuned to jtrigsby.com for more updates...only eleven more episodes this season!

How To Work In the Internet - Part 2

Just because you don't have a brick and mortar store front doesn't mean opening an on-line store is any easier!

Well, it's time for part 2 in the series about how to live and, more importantly, work IN the Internet. Last time we talked about getting the basics covered, email, website, etc (see How To Work In the Internet - Part 1). And as promised, this time we're going to go over eCommerce and making a little scratch with an on-line store!

Getting Started...the EASY way!

Without a doubt, the easiest way to get involved in eCommerce, or selling stuff on-line, is eBay! You can sell anything there, honestly! You can even sell your car online at eBay! Now I know many of you don't want to sell that out of your garage, but I bet there is something in there you can let go of...isn't there. Whether its your garage, closet, storage unit, where ever - go take a look around, pick something out, and sell it! Before you know it, your on-line, ecommerce empire is up and running!

The up-side to using eBay to get started is that you don't have to build anything. The website, bidding engine, buy it now engine, PayPal (see below), they are already there and working. It's easy. Oh, and most importantly, they have the traffic! No real need for you to try to drive potential shoppers to your site, eBay does plenty of that for you!

There are two downsides to eBay. First, there may be some "stigma" to "only selling on eBay" kind of like, "oh, you don't have a store, you just do garage sales?" If that kind of thing bothers you then you should look elsewhere as soon as possible. Me, I don't care. I've know plenty of wealthy folks who got that way selling junk at garage sales. This is no different except we're doing it on-line.

The second downside to eBay is that they have to make their money too, and they do that off the seller. eBay charges a variety of fees when you list your product for sale, whether it sells or not. The charges are usually small but they obviously cut into your profit. For that reason you might want to upgrade to your own store.

Click & Mortar, sans Mortar

After you've sold a few items on eBay, you may want to consider upgrading to an Internet Storefront. There are several options to do this and again we'll start with the easy one. Again, eBay has an offering for you, from beginner to expert, they've got you covered. You can use this link to find out just how easy it is to open a storefront on eBay.com . The type of store you choose will be dictated by how big a part of your income you want this to be.

As with regular eBay auctions, a regular eBay store is an easy way to get all your products on-line and up for sale. If you don't have or don't want to spend a lot of time on your Internet Storefront, this would be a good option for you. If you're ready to go up against Wal-Mart and Target, then you will want your Own Web Store at Your Own Web Address!. ProStores - yet another eBay company - has what you need.

If the eBay store doesn't sound appealing to you, how about another giant of the Internet, Yahoo!? They have several options to choose from and you can use this link to compare web hosting packages from Yahoo! (BTW, you may want to find out What the Crap is Microsoft Thinking? if you're leaning toward the Yahoo! option. Still a good option, you just need to know.)

Show Me the Money!

No matter which method you choose the most important part of having an on-line store is getting paid! Most options offer you a variety of choices but two are leading the pack, PayPal and Google Checkout.

If you go the eBay route its almost a no brainer, go with PayPal! After all, it is an eBay company and integration is tight and secure. After you get your PayPal account setup, you can even get a PayPal Debit Card to have quick access to your proceeds!

If PayPal isn't for you then there is always the monster of the Internet, Google. You can use this link to .

Both options here will require a little setup and they both exercise a great deal of security in dealing with handling your money. It will be a hassle but VERY MUCH worth it in the end. So suck it up and drive on!

And That's About It

All that's left is to choose your weapon, find something to sell, and get after it. Good Luck!

What the Crap is Microsoft Thinking?

Why is the big M going to pay $44B for Y!? I don't get it. They must have some really great intellectual property hidden away in the deep dark corners of their data centers somewhere. Please, help me understand why MS, who BTW already has a portal, search engine and email system, WANTS to buy Y!? I seriously don't get it.

What Happened On Lost: The Beginning of the End

Since I spilled my big secret yesterday (see Tonight's the Night!) about my love for LOST on ABC, I thought I'd go ahead and bite the bullet and start a weekly series to help everybody stay up to date on what happened on LOST.

Thursday night was the big premiere we've been waiting eight months for...a 2 hour LOST event no less...and it was great! After an hour long recap (a necessary staple of the series) we finally go into some new meat.

As we rejoin our castaways, Jack (Matthew Fox) has just phoned home, uh, the ship and they're on the way. Locke (Terry O'Quinn) has just killed the parachute girl, and Ben, still bleeding from Jack's beating, is tied to a big tree. As the losties at the radio tower celebrate, sadness sets in on the beach as everyone there learns Charlie died down below.

We also get re-introduced (quite heavily I'm afraid), a device first employed in the last season finale. This is a Hugo / Hurley centric episode where we see how life off the island has effected him, and lets just say he is much worse for the wear. As he's being arrested from running from the cops, he says he one of the Oceanic 6 (six, I thought there were more than that on the island). So if there are only six that get off, we know three: Jack, Kate, and Hurley. But who are the rest and why didn't the rest make it off the island?

Hurley is committed and while in the hospital, a strange man comes to visit him, the man asks Hurley if "they" are still alive? Who is they?

Jack comes to visit Hugo in the hospital...to see if he's going to "tell." Tell what? And if you remember the cliffhanger last year, Jack says he's tired of lying. Lying to who about what?

And then there's the fact that Hurley say Jacob's cabin...and presumably Jacob. Does that make Hurley "special" too?

As usual this weeks installment has left us with more questions than answers. MAN, I love this show!
